Building Information Modeling (BIM)

February, 1st, 2022
8:30 to 12:30
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a novel tool, based on information technology that has revolutionized the life cycle management process of construction projects. The abundant benefits of using BIM in construction projects in various fields, reduced waste, and increased productivity, have led to the rapid applications of this progressive tool in construction projects around the world. Meanwhile, in recent years, this technology has found its way to Iran and has become a favorite technology among many construction industry pioneers in the country. Currently, its applications are growing fast in the country's construction projects. However, the proper use of this new tool requires sufficient knowledge of its various dimensions. In this workshop, the basics and various dimensions of building information modeling are taught to the participants.

Green Building Rating Systems

February,1st, 2022
13:30 to 17:30
The construction industry is considered to be among the most unsustainable industries globally, due to its high energy and water demand, large environmental footprint, and large waste generation, both during construction and operation. Considering the high frequency of building industry projects, aligning the development of these projects with sustainability principles will have a large impact in the long term. To move towards achieving this goal in a pragmatic way, various Green Building Rating Systems (GBRS) have been developed globally, such as LEED (US), BREEAM (UK), DGNB (Germany), GSAS (Qatar), EDGE (World Bank), and Green Cedar (Iran). In this workshop, the most well-known global GBRSs are briefly outlined, discussing their scopes, limitations, and applications. A more detailed discussion will follow focusing on GSAS, EDGE, and Green Cedar as three global, regional, and national systems. In the next part, several regional green building projects, which have earned different certificates, will be discussed talking about strategies and green measures that they have undertaken. As an outcome, the best strategies and priorities that would ensure higher sustainability with minimum expenditure will be covered. One of the most important barriers in the development of green building projects in Iran is to convince potential clients that such projects can be financially viable. In the last section of the workshop, CAPEX and OPEX are investigated and an application on the estimation of these expenditures will be proposed and some marketing ideas to promote green building projects in Iran will be suggested.
